I am back to work this week. One more week and the kids will be back to school. Life will slowly return to normal. Well ya know. Normal for us. This summer has been the very best summer in so many ways. We marked many things off our bucket list; we played, we rested, we had adventures, we vacationed and camped. We rode our bikes and ate ice cream and visited friends.
I could not have wished for a better break for our family or for myself. Yesterday I walked into church and my friend Linda said "you look so much more rested!" And I felt rested. Rested and clear headed.
Of course there are things that are still on our list. Things we want to do before the summer season is over. And we have birthdays and birthday parties rapidly approaching. Both boys within two weeks of each other (jeez, what was I thinking? Don't answer that...) So we have those small parties to plan and enjoy. I have to confess that I am the glad the boys are big enough to want simplier parties. Sleepovers with pizza and pool parties with ice cream sundaes. Planning all the big theme parties was fun when they were little, but now I am loving the old school parties of yonder days. Cake, ice cream, a rented movie and lots of sleeping bags piled high sounds pretty groovy to this momma.
As we get ready to head into a new school year I can't help but think of all the things I want to do differently this year: Make healthier lunches. Take my lunch more. Not be so grouchy at the end of the day. Make the boys practice their handwriting in the evening. Read together more before bed. Listen better.
All this pictures are part of a a little project I have started. A little something that will hopefully remind and encourage me in this pursuit of a more tranquil and healthy school year. Of course now that I am back at work it may take me all year to finish it, but maybe it will be in the doing of it that I will find that tranquil peace and slower pace? Perhaps.
