Movin on out...

Of the Shoppes.

Saturday was a bittersweet day. It was the day that Jeanetta and I moved out of our lovely striped parlor at The Shoppes on Woodlawn.
(All these pics are from our time there)

We have been in the Shoppes for over 2 years (can't hardly believe it) and we had been in the parlor for about 16 months of that.
The parlor was pretty good to us and we loved it dearly
We filled it with all sorts of treats and treasures, folly and fancy, bits and baubles.

But in the end the economy and our ever shifting lives did us in, and we knew that 2009 would see us changing things up a bit.

For now, I have moved out of the Shoppes as a resident. Hopefully I will be holding bi-monthly trunk shows (as well as showing at the monthly 1st Thursday Shop-N-Sip night) to showcase my holiday banners, new products and to give my regulars the chance to place special orders and do a bit of shopping. At least that is the plan. We shall see how things proceed from here - this is all still new territory, and I am not above changing my mind or adjusting things as needed.

Jeanetta is staying in residence at the Shoppes and has moved back upstairs to little space where she will be displaying and selling her very popular aprons and re-claimed door signs.

This move has been bittersweet for sure, and has been the subject of much thought and discussion for months. But it was made for all the right reasons, and is not a sign of things going downhill, as much as it is a sign of other things increasing in responsibility & excitement - including my wholesale business and my role at our church, which are 2 areas that I feel very strongly about right now and want to be able to focus more of my attention.

So what little was left (and there wasn't much since we hadn't really put anything in since the last of November) in our room I packed up and moved out, and now a new shoppe gal will move in and make it her own. (The upside for some of you will be that everything I emptied out of my local Shoppe has to go somewhere, so I will be adding some one-of-a-kind finds & creations to Storia HOME and Storia VINTAGE in a huge ATTIC SALE in the coming week. )

Before I close the door on this chapter I have to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has supported me through your encouragement and enthusiasm for what we did in our room. Also a HUGE thank you to everyone who shopped in our room or stopped in to say hello during an Open House or 1st Thursday. Our time in the parlor was extremely special, and having you to share it with was half the fun!

Even though I am sad to see our lovely room go to someone else, I have a great peace that this was the right thing to do, and I am excited about all the other NEW things that 2009 holds and that I get to share with you!

  1. I will def keep an eye out for your attic sale ... Goody, goody
I too am doing some changes so I completely understand your decision to move out of your booths. I think the Trunk Shows are a fabulous idea. One thing that did really well for me this year was doing a trunk show at a locally owned craft & beading store called Ornamentea ( Even though I did have to give the owner a percentage, the traffic I had was amazing and would not have been possible without her advertising and clientele. It was a good deal of work, but in one day I made what I make at the antique mall in a week! So, you may want to see if there's a local scrapbooking store that could host a Trunk Show for you...

I also wanted to check with you in regards to the Flotsam and Jetsam Rubylane Gift Certificate you won. I wanted to see if you'd like me to make you a "goody" box that would be useful to you in your art. I didn't know if you were into the small, eclectic items I sell so I wanted to make sure you would get something you like. But I will be adding more items over the next two months, so you may find something you like in my inventory.

    Have a great week!

  2. Understand totally, completely and utterly! But, as they say, one door closes and another opens . . . Take Care - Rachaelxo

  3. I always loved looking at the photos of your Shoppe through the change of crafty seasons.
Good luck to your 2009 endeavors!!

  4. Your booth was adorable! But, one knows when it is time to move onward to other venues. I think you will do well where ever you land. Your things are so cute! : D

  5. I loved seeing the photos from the various set-ups of your room. The first one is my fave. Anywho, lots of us handmade-peeps are going through similar things. Me - it's my jewelry biz - trying to figure out what to do with it. It's great to hear that you are comfortable and confident with your decision! You go girl! Best of luck, Diana :)

  6. Ok. I just almost cried. So sad to hear this. Really, your little shoppe was a big part of fun lunch breaks when work was too much.

But I'm sure whatever your ventures are, they'll be successful. You are both just so very talented.

  7. I am a little sad with you. Hope your plans work out for the very best. You are so multi-talented! Keep on juggling!

  8. Sending warm wishes your way for a wonderful New Year with new adventures, paths to take, peaceful moments and personal happiness. Sorry to hear about your little room... new things are ahead!

  9. what is it that drives us ???? I just adore you ...saddened by your reality but know that the faith that nourishes and sustains us will flourish in 2009. I'm right there with you. all my very best to you Cheers sweets.

  10. Well, I'm sorry to read this, but life goes on, things and needs change. All the best with your future endeavors! Bonne chance!!!
