Let's Avoid Shall We?

Today after just doing a little work this morning, I had to declare a time out from business stuff and actually do some housework. Not enough, but some. Like unpacking from our trip. Like switching winter clothes for summer clothes. Like clearing off the pile on the dining room table. Nothing exciting, but a good head start on feeling like I am living in a home and not a pig sty again...

So now I thought I would avoid the housework for a moment and reality for a moment, and pretend that I am about to go buy a new couch... Hmmm... which one shall I choose?

I have decided with the new living room arrangement that we might be able to fit a sectional into our living room, which would accommodate all 4 of us lounging together - something we enjoy.

Here are my requirements:
1) Slipcovered instead of upholstered.
2) Sectional that would include a Chaise and a Couch and that is all.
3) I would like the couch (and maybe the chaise too?) part to be armless so that if I ever broke the set up they would look normal on their own, instead of only having one arm each.

This one from Pottery Barn is a little too big and bulky, those back pillows would be on the floor in no time flat...

Here is one that I like for it's body style - though I would change the fabric of course (white for summer, red for winter...)

So my questions are these:
Do you have a sectional? Do you like it?
Do you have an armless couch/chaise? Do you like it?
Can you recommend any other options for me to look at?

  1. ok am i reading jerusalem's blog? a sectional? really? it seems so unlike you. a chaise i get yes of course but the whole no arms thing sounds way to mod for you. now this is just my initial reaction.
personally i have never like sectionals or couches without arms. i always feel like i will fall off. lol. but its ot like it will keep me from coming to your house or anything. :P

  2. I never thought of myself as a sectional gal either, but there are some cute styles and I like the idea of mixing and matching and re-arranging...And we are all big snugglers and always end up on the couch together and the bigger they get the more room we need...

I think they're both pretty. If I'm seeing it correctly, are the seat cushions on the Pottery Barn piece tufted? That's a really nice detail, but I agree that it doesn't look like much room to sit and snuggle. My initial reaction was the one from PB, but I think that's because of the colors of the pillows. ;)

  4. Yep, I have a sectional and it too FOREVER to find! My requirement was that it could not be leather, had to be comfy enough for 3 people to lay on to watch TV (me, husband, and teenager), and no microfiber (because dog hair likes to stick to that). I finally found our sofa at Macy's homestore (locally in our area), but if you have Macy's, they may sell it there. It is just the right size (but no chaise because it would not fit in our family room) and has down pillows. I fall asleep on it way too often. It has slipcovers, so they could be changed if the material gets yucky. I ended up with a yellow pattern (because that was on sale) and figured I would see how long that lasts before getting dirty. So far, so good. Anyhow, good luck on your search. Oh, I could not believe how uncomfortable so many couches are...and some had the narrowest seats...guess that saves on the cost, but not very comfortable for sitting on!

  5. I adore that second one. I love the idea of armless for splitting it up but I'm not sure about that for me for everyday living. I just seems wrong! I hope you'll keep us updated about what you find. I've been daydreaming about one lately too, originally for the basement but I thought, why get new furniture down there for teenagers and children to destroy and keep the old stuff upstairs? Just doens't make any sense to me!

  6. kijsa has a sectional in her brick room that is fabulously comfortable where we have had many an American Idol party!

Have a blessed and wonderful day!

  7. don't have, but wish I did. I am leaning towards liking the second option, but really I just like anything new, and my own. Love the white, love the red. Love you.
This kind of stuff is almost more fun than if I was actually looking for myself. Okay, strange chaise lounge question: Are they as glamorous, luxurious and as restful, let me veg. here and read a book as they seem??? I am thinking that my life isn't quite "chaise lounge" material.?? Hmmm. . . wait this is about you, not me. . . sorry. Have fun.

  8. I didn't think I would like a sectional, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. It gives you comfort, and so much room, especially if you have people over.
Mine is down wrapped foam, and is slipcovered. That is the only way to go. Comfort, and practical.
It's in my family room, and makes for a great place to read or watch movies.
    Have a great day!

  9. Would love the chaise. I would never move. I don't have a sectional but I love Crate & Barrels sofas. They carry a line called Lee Furniture, although they don't advertise it as Lee Furniture...it's Crate & Barrel's furniture. Google Lee Furniture.

  10. weighing in with my .04 cents worth (inflation you know)-- we have neither- but we do have large back pillows. here's my secret for life with 2 rowdy boys-
make sure the cushions are washable covers- mine unzip and come off the sofa and into the washer. also, i designated a 'company' side for all pillows and cushions- and flip them when company is coming about.i also recommend neutral colors- because the boys are just too rough unless you ban them... but i did truly long for the savannah one.
